Instructional Philosophy
Our instructional philosophy is rooted in providing students with a well-rounded and enriching educational experience that prepares them for success in academics and in life. New LA courses are meticulously aligned with the Common Core State Standards to ensure academic rigor and excellence. We are committed to fostering a learning environment where relevance for students is paramount, where they can see the connections between what they are learning and their own lives. Through study and collaborative group work, students not only deepen their understanding of academic subjects; they also cultivate respect and build strong relationships with their peers and teachers.
Fostering a sense of community and social responsibility in our students is paramount. To this end, our curriculum includes project-based learning and incorporates social justice themes where appropriate, providing opportunities for students to engage in meaningful discussions and take action on issues that matter to them. These experiences reinforce the importance of mutual respect, empathy, and cooperation, skills that are essential for success in teamwork and in navigating the complexities of the world.
We also believe in the holistic development of our students. In addition to academic coursework, we prioritize experiences in P.E., arts, outdoor education, health education, and community engagement. These promote physical and emotional well-being, and nurture creativity, critical thinking, and social skills. Through participation in these diverse activities, students develop a deep appreciation for the importance of a balanced and active lifestyle, as well as a sense of belonging to their school community and the world beyond.
We invite you to explore the different facets of our program and join us in our commitment to providing a comprehensive and enriching educational experience for every student at New LA.
